Community Settlement Services Scheme (CSSS)
What is the CSSS?
The Community Settlement Services Scheme (CSSS) is a Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMIA) funded program to deliver settlement assistance for refugees, humanitarian entrants and newly arrived migrants who are experiencing significant barriers to settlement.
Who is eligible for CSSS services?
- Permanent residents who have arrived as humanitarian entrants and as family stream migrants, within the last five years
- Communities which are receiving significant numbers of new arrivals who are in the settlement services groups
- Communities that require assistance to develop their capacity to organize, plan and advocate for service to meet their own needs
The CSSS Program at the Bureau
We provide:
- General settlement information
- Advice and support
- Migration advice and assistance
- Cross cultural information to other agencies
We also:
- Initiate the development of support groups and identify and nurture self-help networks
- Respond to settlement needs of families and youth
- Facilitate community capacity building
- Work in partnership with mainstream providers to plan and deliver culturally appropriate services
- Ensure clients are linked to appropriate agencies to enhance their knowledge and confidence in assessing services
Referral Process
Workers can make direct referrals to the settlement workers or clients can use the Bureau's drop-in-service.
