Emergency Relief Victoria are proud to announce the availability of our Education Costs Kit, launched during Anti-Poverty Week.
This practical and simple kit is designed to provide community workers with the facts and tools to inform, advocate and support low income families struggling to pay education
costs. Further, it provides community workers with tools to advocate with local schools to provide a range of support services to promote inclusion and equity for low income
families.
There is a demonstrated link between lower socio-economic backgrounds and lower educational outcomes and education costs have increased by a staggering 41% in the last 5 years.
Coupled with the rising costs of daily living, the ability of all children to participate equally in state run education is impaired. Students from low-income families often are
unable to attend camps and excursions , undertake “specialist” subjects or even miss school due to not having lunch or the correct uniform.
Many families feel uncomfortable about speaking to their school when they face these issues, and community agencies are often approached for assistance. It includes 4
information sheets:
- Parent Payments in schools (information for workers and clients)
- Help with school costs: concessions and assistance available
- Agency processes and ideas for helping with school costs
- Reducing school costs.
Translations for Information Sheet 1 are available in the following languages and are separate documents
